Runway to Real Life: Spring 2012 Makeup Trend Alert — SunKissed Eyes!

I was invited to the Diane von Furstenberg S/S 2012 launch at Nordstrom and I brought my mother and daughter with me. It was a fun afternoon where we got free makeup done by the very talented makeup artist, Nora Patton of Yves Saint Laurent!

I chose to get experimental and have a look done I’ve never had before inspired by makeup from the Burberry Prorsum Spring/Summer 2012 runway shows. It’s a big S/S 2012 makeup trend to have these “sun kissed” eyes and I just loved how it looked in the pictures and knew right away I wanted to try it.

Thanks to Dress Me On the Runway for the great Burberry Prorsum makeup pics above.

Nora working her magic!

I ended up getting the YSL palette (Ombre 5 Lumieres) so hopefully I can replicate this look again!! I just love how natural and fresh it looks! I don’t geek out on makeup as I’m big on skincare but it’s probably about time I learn how to use eyeshadow. Nora gave great tips during our session which I am going to try to put into use… The SunKissed eye look is actually more technique than it is a specific palette, the colors will vary on your skintone but undoubtedly it is one which favors “nudes”. Anyways, it basically uses nude tones to brighten the eye while at the same time adding depth to the eyeshape and lashes!

I guess this entry will ALSO double as a Jason Wu for Target review. Overall I’d read lots of good things about it, the reviews were that the quality wasn’t bad for the price point and the designs were ladylike and cute, very true to his style. The only thing I wanted from his collection that I saw online was the blush colored white polka dot blouse. I didn’t succomb to the mania on the day of his initial release — I’m over that after the H&M x Lanvin fiasco — but was pleasantly surprised to drop into my local Target for some random groceries to see that their sole blouse left was an XS! It was meager pickings so I couldn’t believe it. Fated I guess! Paired them with new favorites, quilted leather shorts from LF in the style of Philip Lim.

I ended up losing that amazing Hmong/Thai handmade bracelet from Phukaw in Santa Monica later that day!! 😦 So sad! Next time I’m in LA I am going to seriously try to make it back to that store to get another. Boo hoo!
